Company History

Strauss Paper Company (SPC) is a second generation, 60 year old, family-owned business, founded in 1943 by Henry Strauss and his wife Ruth. When Henry started this company, his dream was to create a company in which personalized service and long term relationships would thrive. This is a dream which we continue to live and strive for. Our mission at Strauss is to “provide our customers the right products, in the right quantities, at the right prices, delivered at the right time with flawless service from all Strauss associates.

SPC first opened shop in the back seat of Henry Strauss’ car. In 1944 he rented a one car garage in White Plains, New York. In 1954 Henry opened his first “real” warehouse in Elmsford, New York. In 1978 Henry and Stewart (Henry’s son) built our current building (25,000 Sq Ft) at 10 Slater Street in Port Chester, New York. In 1992 Strauss Paper acquired Trouble Shooter Maintenance, a small janitorial business and expanded its facility to 55,000 square feet. In 2000, Strauss Paper grew to a total of 90,000 square feet.

Strauss Paper Company is a wholesale distributor in the New York tri-state area and employs approximately 100 employees. Distribution consists of three major product categories and they are, janitorial and cleaning supplies, disposable food packaging, and shipping supplies. In addition, to the wholesale business is a retail operation (Strauss Warehouse Outlet) selling party goods to the public. The store is located at 140 Horton Avenue, Port Chester, New York, open daily to the public. The outlet employs approximately 35 employees and 40,000 items.

Henry ran the business as President until he passed away in 1984 and with Ruth’s passing in 2004, both Strauss children remain. Presently, son Stewart Strauss is President and daughter Joyce Strauss Jonap is Corporate Secretary and in Sales.
